Magazine Update: changes

Hey everyone,

Sorry this post is a little late, I meant to do it yesterday. As you may have noticed we have a new logo and have altered the magazine’s name to Nights Magazine. Just to reassure you will still be publishing Norwich based features and articles, the new name is a better fit and reflects both our content and audience better. You may or not be aware but our online audience now covers most of the globe which is why we’ve added Google Translate add to the website.

The magazine is changing we have taken on a lifestyle approach which enables us to include a wider range of topics in the magazine. With the introduction of our interview services from September onwards the cover is changing to as we allow faces on the cover of the magazine to reflect our featured interviews. While some issue may still show off local scenery.

We had hoped to raise enough funds to start free distribution in Norwich but this was unsuccessful. Print copies are expensive and it costs us £4.50 to print each magazine plus postage to send it out and for this reason you will notice a price increase as from September to £5.40 and a notable increase on our online and advertising prices please check the website for details

Finally some good news, we are excited to announced that Nights Magazine and Business Nights Box have merged. Business Nights Box created by our editor Melissa Compton to help small business owners by providing knowledge on different areas of running a business. Each month a video, course guide and resource pack is created and uploaded, the video’s are now available for free and you can view them in our business pages, course guides are priced at a reasonable £8.00 and resource packs are priced at £2.50 upwards. The Cash Management content is currently available with Business Systemization due to added next week.

An Hour A Day For A Better Life!

Nowadays, most people see training, nutrition and other self-care activities as something time-consuming.

But what are the things you can do on the day to day basis, without using up most of your wake time?

Well, the truth is there are MANY small things you can do on the daily basis to improve your overall quality of life.

In this article, we’ll give you our best tips and activities and it is up to you to schedule them into a convenient, one-hour routine, every single day!

If you do that consistently, that’ll be nearly 400 hours of work on yourself for a year.

Guess that will give results.

Now without further ado, let’s get to it!

What Can You Do For Your Body?

You have to realize that establishing certain habits that will nourish your body is not all that hard.

Especially when you compare that to the vast amount of things you are NOT doing.

Seriously, think about it – All your bodily functions and processes are autonomous (automatic).

  1. You don’t have to think in order to digest
  2. You don’t have to consciously poop (it just happens to you, but you can hold it)
  3. You don’t control any of your bodily functions for the most part

It appears that the community of cells that your body is, is just a smart organism that’s trying to keep you alive and healthy.

Here’s what you need to do in order to support the life of your community of cells.

Be active/Include training

Optimal health occurs when all your bodily systems are working normally and with balanced chemistry.

Following that train of thought, we can say that you can’t just ignore one of the biggest systems in the body – the musculo-skeletal system.

As complex as it is, the human body was MADE to move, which is why a stagnant, sedentary lifestyle may increase the risk of worsened quality of life.

And though most people think of the gym when they hear “training”, lifting weights is by far not the only activity you can and should do.

Do some weight lifting, do some bodyweight work, some hikes, climbing, swimming, running, sprinting, etc.

Enjoy the vast variety of activities your body can do and it will thank you!

Eat nourishing foods

Though the body synthesizes many of the nutrients it needs on its own, there are certain essential nutrients that the body needs, but can’t produce.

This is why eating the proper foods in the right amounts, is essential when it comes to giving the body what it needs.

Protein and fats are the two essential nutrients that play major roles in many important bodily functions.

Carbohydrates on the other hand are not essential, but can be a good tool to use when trying to optimize high-intensity training performance.

Here are our best whole food picks for you to include in your nutrition plan:

  1. Beef
  2. Eggs
  3. Fish
  4. Avocado
  5. Mangoes
  6. Dairy products
  7. Sweet potatoes
  8. Honey

If you are an omnivore, animal products should be at the core of your diet, as they provide plenty of essential proteins, fats and are very satiating, making it less likely for you to overeat.

Manage stress

Even though nutrition and movement are of prime importance for your wellbeing, stress can be the make or break factor, due to its nature.

Excessive stress shuts down the body’s growth, as well as the immune system and also, kicks the heart and brain out of coherence (sync).

This inner-created chaos then translates to feelings, emotions and actions in the outer world, making your overall experience bad.

Without a doubt, stress management may sound easy, but it is not the easiest thing to practice.

Take 10-20 minutes of your day to sit down in a quiet room, undisturbed and reflect back on your day.

Analyze which stress factors were persistent and put a conscious intention to react in a different way to those things.

Remember, stress management is about an inner regulation of your reactions to things.

For the most part, your body works automatically and all you have to do Is use it the right way and feed it with the right food, fluids, thoughts and awareness!

From then on, all the right mindsets, actions and emotions will come into place and set a life flow of greater quality.

Are you ready to make the change?

An extract from my forthcoming book: Getting Started In Business

For this weeks blog I thought I would share a passage from my book (coming soon) it’s about knowing who you are as a small business owner.

Getting to know who you are as an entrepreneur.

So, you got to know you and are grounded in who you are, but who are you as a small business owner/entrepreneur? The most common question coaches, mentors, start-up courses will ask you is what is your why? – and while you will probably have an answer that goes to spend more time with family, to enjoy life, to help others etc. The question does not go deep enough; its purpose is to ground you in troubled times. Yes, no matter how great, proven, expertly delivered your idea is, you’re going to have troubled times at one point or another, and let us be honest about it probably more than once. There is a reason small business owners/entrepreneurs refer to problems as challenges and it is that a problem in business is just something you have to overcome to achieve your aim, and there is another problem around the corner. Now I realize a few of you picked up this book thinking, I will start a business, and sail through life happy ever after – well sorry, I do not deal in fairy tales and the truth is if it was that easy, you would not be reading this book in the first place. So, let us take the why and pop it on the self for a while and ask, “who am I as a small business owner/entrepreneur?”

Who are you as a business owner/entrepenuer?

You may be sitting there thinking it is the same, as who I am as a person. It most cases it is not it I had to answer this question it would go like this, I am an small business owner/entrepreneur who wants to empower people to be confident enough and be armed with the knowledge to live their live to their full potential – I want people to success, my goals are value based not income based and I hold honesty and integrity above all else. The answer to this question lies in how you want to be represented in the world – what you want to be remembered for what is important to you in your business journey. This will keep you far more grounded and motivated in your tough times because it does change how you want to show up in the world and be remembered after your gone is far more stable than your why. This is because our why is usually based on our needs – i.e. I do not have enough income to live the life I want therefore our why becomes, I want to provide for my family, I want to work less hours for more money. The problem is this a goal, and once we achieve this goal, say I work 4 hours a day and make enough income to enjoy life – it’s use as a motivation is gone, worst case scenario is that it leads us into a “I want more mentality” (which is really a lack mentality) the problem here is that we would never be satisfied and fulfilled and we all deserve that as human beings.”

Hope you enjoyed,

Melissa xx

What is Business Systemization?

Does your business work seamlessly without you? What would happen if you were out of action for a few weeks could the business still function?

If the answer to either of these questions is no, then the answer is to improve your systemization. But what is systemization?

A simple definition is:

Systemization is the process of designing standard operating procedures to ensure the consistency and efficiency of an organization.

Documenting every process of the business sound like a huge undertaking does it have you reaching for a notebook, (honestly, give me any excuse and I’ll buy a new notebook it’s the writer in me!).

Hold on a moment, it’s worth taking some time to understand where you’re at as a business but also where you’re heading systemization can make onboarding so much easier.

Michael E. Gerber, published in 1986, The E-Myth – Why most businesses don’t work and what to do about it. The book was groundbreaking and popularised systemization

As Gerber explains in his book, as business owners we are quite often the technicians, in that we know everything about our industry how to develop our product line, but often are not hugely knowledgeable about the corporate world of business. Expectations to this are entrepreneurs who usually do it the other way round they know everything about business with limited knowledge of the technical side of their field.

There are many software packages and programs to help us with systemization and it’s worth playing around to see which one/ones suit your business.

Till Next Week,

Love Melissa xx
